Post by yjk--- Absolute laws of thermodynamics.

“In this house, we OBEY the laws of thermodynamics!
Who ever said the laws apply to all of existence? Certainly our
current universe but we've obviously never checked anything that is
not our universe.
Or maybe you're not talking about big bang and you're thinking that
evolution breaks the second law. You can look into the math for it
yourself but if you'd like to take my word I can tell you that it
doesn't violate thermodynamics and save you some work. The key part of
the definition that people bringing up second law tend to skip over is
"in a closed system."
It's like if you use one batter (A) to charge another battery (B). If
you just look at battery B the entropy is going way down because
there's this huge influx of usable energy- if you thought it was a
closed system it would seem to be in huge violation of the second law
of thermodynamics. Since we know that there is actually a battery A
though we can count the energy there. It doesn't take a genius to tell
that you can't use Battery A to charge Battery B up with more energy
than there is in A- at 100% efficiency you can only put into B what
you take out of A.
In the case of life evolving on Earth we take energy out of that big
battery in the sky we call our Sun. The entropy in our sun goes up
more than any local decreases in entropy on Earth. Thus thermodynamics
stays happy- no laws violated.
